Saginaw Spirit Internship Program

The Saginaw Spirit are always looking for talented and out going individuals to join the team and help it in creating its ‘raving fan’ atmosphere!

1. Saginaw Spirit Overview

The Saginaw Spirit is a major junior hockey team with the Canadian Hockey League, the premier developmental league for the National Hockey League.  Approximately sixty percent of all active NHL players spent time on a CHL roster.  The Saginaw Spirit average 4,500 fans per home game, with 34 regular season games played at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw, Michigan.

2. Available Internship Programs

All of the following are season long intern positions running from August 2013 to April 2014 and are only open to students currently working toward graduation.

2.1 Game Day Operations Interns will be responsible for assisting the staff in the facilitation of the team’s marketing and promotional operations. No prior experience is required and necessary training will be provided.  Intern duties include but are not limited to; preparing on-ice ceremonies and intermission activities, in period promotions, game day giveaways, contestant signup and registration, guest service facilitation, video production, and other tasks if needed.  Internship program is un-paid.   (Ten positions available)

2.2 Business Operations Interns will assist the team with the facilitation of their business operations and sales facilitation, working at the Spirit store on a weekly basis.  Intern will assist the Vice President of Sales and the Spirit sales team with power point creation, sales collateral implementation, database management and more.  Intern is not expected to sell.  No prior experience is required and necessary training will be provided.  This is an unpaid position. (Two positions available)

2.3 Ticketing and Merchandising Interns assist the team with the day-to-day ticketing and merchandising operations of the team.  Interns will work at Spirit home games at the Will Call booth and/or merchandise booth.  Interns will also work several hours per week in the office.  Intern may be trained on TicketMaster if applicable.  (Two positions available)

2.4 Hockey Operations Interns will work with the coaching staff on administrative tasks related to the ongoing efforts of the hockey team.  Interns will also assist the coaching staff with the team's coaching video production and statistical compilation during Spirit home games.  This is an unpaid, non-coaching position.  No travel currently associated with internship, however a valid U.S. Passport or Extended License is recommended.  The time frame for this internship is from August 2012 to June 2013. (Two positions available)

2.5 Group Sales/ Fan Relations Intern will work under the guidance of the Group Sales Coordinator to create a ‘raving fan’ experience for every Spirit fan in the building. On game days intern will assist at the S.M.I.L.E kiosk, which coordinates contest sign ups and promotes various ticket packages and upcoming promotions to the fans. Intern will also be asked to complete office hours assisting the team with the day-to-day group sale operations of the team. Internship is unpaid. (One position available)

3. Internship Time Frame

The internship program will run for the duration of the 2013-2014 hockey season, with interns starting in August 2013 for a series of orientations and training sessions and concluding in late April 2014.  Interns may be asked to work any additional home games played in the postseason, which could run until early May 2014. (This time frame does not apply to the Hockey Operations Internship.)
