The Spirit Win to the Storm with Seconds Left in the GameJan 06, 2013 - 13:21 EST
The Saginaw Spirit took on the Guelph Storm on Sunday afternoon, winning their 2nd game of a 7 game home stand 3 – 2.
After 20 minutes, both Western Conference clubs had their chances in the opening period, however, the Storm scored first on a power play tally by Zack Mitchell, his 15th of the season, with assists coming from Brock McGinn and Zac Leslie. The Spirit quickly tied the game on a goal from Terry Trafford, his 7th of the season, assisted by Jeremiah Addison and Dylan Sadowy. The Storm finished off the scoring for the frame on a goal by Cody McNaughton, his 9th of the season, with an assist from Brock Beukeboom. The first period ended Guelph 2 – Saginaw 1.
After a great goaltending duel in the second and aggressive play from both the Spirit and the Storm, neither team was able to score. The shots on goal at the end of the frame were Guelph 23 – Saginaw 15.
Both the Spirit and the Storm came out with a solid effort in the third. Although the Spirit were able to advance to tie the game on a power play goal by Jason Shaw, his 1st career Spirit goal, with assists coming from Garret Ross and Eric Locke. The Spirit closed out the scoring with a goal less than 15 seconds left in the game off Garret Ross’ stick, his 21st of the season, assisted by Eric Locke and Jimmy Lodge. The game ended Saginaw 3 – Guelph 2, with the shots on goal tied at 30.
