The Saginaw Spirit Challenged the London Knights in an Early Season Western Conference BattleSep 27, 2013 - 18:29 EDT
In a rematch of last year’s first round playoff series the Spirit and the Knights took the ice Friday in London with the home side winning 6-3.
The game started slow in the first period, although it quickly gained momentum as the Knights scored their first goal by Santino Centorame from Kyle Platzer and Mitchell Marner at 9:17 into the game. The Knights scored again 16 seconds later on a Josh Anderson effort, from Chris Tierney. The Spirit narrowed the score soon after with a power play goal by Justin Sefton from Kristoff Kontos and Jacob Ringuette at 10:04 into the period. The Spirit then delivered a game tying power play goal by Cody Payne from Nick Moutrey and Justin Kea at 11:34 into the period
The second period started fast with a Knights power play goal scored by Kyle Platzer from Mitchell Marner and Brett Welychka 2:03 in. The Knights reinstated their two goal lead with another power play goal scored by Alex Basso from Chris Tierney and Matt Rupert 7:54 into the period. The Spirit narrowed the Knights lead to one with a power play goal by Zach Bratina from Kristoff Kontos and Brandon Prophet at 12:48 into the period.
The third period went without a goal for the first fourteen minutes, however, the Knights managed to pull ahead further with a goal scored by Josh Anderson from Remi Elie and Santino Centorame at 14:10. The Knights secured the win with their sixth goal of the game scored by Michael McCarron from Christian Dvorak and Ryan Rupert. The Spirit had 39 shots on goal, with the Knights recording 53 shots.
