Spirit Defeat Owen Sound Attack 4-2

This afternoon fans gathered at The Dow Event Center early to participate in Faith Day presented by Causley Trucking and Family Life Radio.  The Spirit took on Owen Sound Attack and prevailed, defeating them by a score of 4-2.  Spirit goals were spread out amongst Josh Shalla, Carlos Amestoy, Jimmy Lodge, and Brandon Saad.

After some intense back and forth play between the Spirit and the Attack, Josh Shalla put Spirit on the board and in the lead by a score of 1-0. His goal was assisted by Brad Walch and Michael Fine. This was the only goal scored in the first period.

The action in the second period heated up quickly as Owen Sound Attack tied up the score 1-1 after just two minutes of play. Mike Halmo scored this power play goal, assisted by Chris Bigras and Jordan Binnington.  Shortly after, Bigras scored a power play goal of his own thanks to assists from Halmo and Gemel Smith.  The Attack then led the Spirit 2-1.  Carlos Amestoy did not let the Attack hold their lead for long, as he shot one in off a pass from Garret Ross.  With five minutes left in the period, Jimmy Lodge nets a goal in the top left corner past the goaltender to bring the Spirit lead to 3-2.  David Perklin and Steven Strong assisted the goal.

The teams both experienced a fair amount of power play time in the third period.  With just 38 seconds left to play, the Attack pulled their goalie. Brandon Archibald set up Brandon Saad with a breakaway; Saad would net the empty netter and the Spirit prevail over the Attack by a score of 4-2.
