Saginaw Takes Down Brampton 5-2

Oct 20, 2011 - 22:09 GMT

On Thursday night, the Saginaw Spirit defeated the Brampton Battalion by the score of 5-2 to start a three-game weekend road trip.  Brandon Saad scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the Spirit. Ryan O’Connor also scored for Saginaw.

Brandon Saad got his big night started at the 14:29 mark of the first period with a power play goal assisted by Ryan O’Connor and Vincent Trocheck.  Saad scored his second of the night at 3:19 of the second period and netted the natural hat trick at the 13:26, shorthanded, to give the Spirit a 3-0 lead going into the third period.  Ryan O’Connor scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay at 2:59 of the third as the Spirit took a commanding 4-0 lead.

Brampton would not go away quietly however.  Patrik Machac and Cameron Wind added goals for the Battalion in the third to make the score 4-2.  However it was Brandon Saad who scored his fourth goal of the game late in the third on the power play to put the game out of reach 5-2.  Jake Paterson made 43 saves in between the pipes for Saginaw.
