Jake Paterson on Top of His Game, Stopping Over 50 Shots on GoalSep 20, 2013 - 19:40 EDT
The Saginaw Spirit took the ice for game number two of the 2013-2014 season in Kitchener on Friday, falling 4-2.
The first period started off very quickly with an unassisted Kitchener goal by Darby Llewellyn 1:54 into the game. After a Saginaw power play and then a Kitchener power play, Saginaw goalie Jake Paterson stopped two break away shots in a row. Kitchener then scored on a 4 on 3 power play on a tally by Justin Bailey from Brent Pederson and Ryan Macinnis. Spirit goaltender Jake Paterson made an impressive 19 saves in the first period, with Rangers goaltender Tyson Teichmann stopping 9 shots on goal.
In the second period Darby Llewellyn scored his second goal of the game from Ben Fanelli and Max Iafrate giving the Rangers a three nothing advantage at 9:28 of the middle period. The Spirit closed the gap to 3-1 at 16:17 of the second period on a goal by Cody Payne from Jeremiah Addison, his third of the season.
In the third the Spirit closed within a goal of the Rangers late in the period on the second goal of the night by Cody Payne, his fourth of the season, from Justin Kea. The Rangers put the game away with an empty net goal by Matia Marcantuoni making the final score 4-2. Spirit goaltender Jake Paterson recorded 52 saves in the game. Final shots on goal were 56 - 27 Kitchener.
The Spirit return to The Dow Event Center for home opening week starting on Wednesday September 25th at 7:11pm against Erie. Saginaw will also face North Bay on Saturday, September 28th at 7:11 pm. Tickets for both games at SaginawSpirit.com.
