Spirit take Point from Spitfires in Record Shootout

The Saginaw Spirit game ended their game Saturday night in a shootout against the CHL leading Windsor Spitfires. Going 14 rounds, the shootout marked the longest in the team's history. Windsor's Ron Soucie notched the winning goal in sudden death, leaving a final score of 4-3.  The Spirit move their season record to 12-7-0-1 and 25 points.

The two teams battled it out, leaving the score untouched at the close of the first period. Winger Chris Chappell and defenseman T.J. Brodie (CALGARY FLAMES) assisted Spirit center Kyle Bochek who found the net at 11:46 in the second period putting Saginaw on the board. Spitfire winger Taylor Hall responded by knocking one in at 13:08 with assists coming from winger Greg Nemisz and defenseman Ron Soucie. Windsor added another point to the score as defenseman Rob Kwiet notched a powerplay goal for the Spitfires at 15:17. Assists were credited to center Andrei Loktionov and defenseman Adam Henrique. Saginaw answered back at 15:23, after winger Jakub Svoboda was fed the puck by center Jack Combs and winger Chris Chappell to score a goal for the Spirit. The second period ended in a tie, 2-2.

Windsor started the third period with a shorthanded goal scored by Hall at 3:08, with the assist coming from defenseman Jesse Blacker. Brodie (CALGARY FLAMES) tied it back up for Saginaw at 16:43 after being fed the puck by Chappell and Combs. The score ended in 3-3 tie heading into overtime.

A 14-round game shootout decided the game and ended with a final goal from Windsor defenseman Ron Soucie.

Spirit goaltender Edward Pasquale finished with 44 saves and Spitfire goalie Andrew Engelage earned 27 saves.
